Halloween in Los Angeles: A Guide for the Grown-Ups

Halloween in Los Angeles: A Guide for the Grown-Ups

There’s a version of October that involves pumpkin patches and early bedtimes. Then there’s the version where you make a dinner reservation, meet up with friends, and stay out as late as you like.

If you’re planning a date night or a night out with friends, here’s where I’d start.

Watch a Movie Under the Stars

For a Halloween night with fewer jump scares, check the October schedule at Rooftop Cinema Club DTLA. Choose a spooky favorite or a cult classic, settle into a deck chair with wireless headphones, and make dinner downtown part of the plan. Films, times, and ticket prices vary, so pick the screening before you make your reservation.

Spend a Night in a Victorian Village

Boo-ze, Bites and Frights at Heritage Square Museum brings Halloween into a village of historic Los Angeles homes on October 16, 17, 23, and 24. Expect haunted pathways, spooky cocktails, food, trick-or-treating, and horror double features.

I love that this one comes with a setting you couldn’t recreate in an ordinary event space. If you’re drawn to LA’s older architecture and the stories behind its homes, the atmosphere is part of the appeal.

Mix a Potion at Frankenstein’s

Frankenstein’s Mad Scientist Cocktail Lab turns a drink into an interactive Halloween plan. The 90-minute reservation includes a cocktail or mocktail experience and spooky photo opportunities, with additional drinks and tarot readings available. It’s a good choice for friends who want to dress up and do something more memorable than their usual bar stop.

Step Into Haunted Soirée

Haunted Soirée in Glendale takes a more theatrical approach to Halloween. It brings together immersive performances, illusions, and miniature craft cocktails in an atmospheric setting. The Los Angeles ticket calendar lists select dates from October 6 through 31. I’d choose this for a night when the experience itself is the plan.

Catch Venice Afterburn by the Beach

Venice Afterburn brings art cars, installations, theme camps, and music to Windward Plaza on October 10 and 11, from noon to 10 p.m. It’s free before 6 p.m. and takes on a different energy after dark.

This one isn’t a Halloween event, but it absolutely belongs on an October night-out list. Venice on an event night feels entirely different from Venice on a quiet morning.

Make Space for Día de los Muertos

Día de los Muertos at Hollywood Forever takes place Saturday, October 24, from noon to midnight. Altars, music, art, and community come together to honor loved ones. It has its own meaning and traditions, separate from Halloween, and deserves its own place on the calendar.

That’s what I love about planning a night out in Los Angeles. You can go looking for a scare, find an excuse to dress up, see art beside the ocean, or take part in a celebration that means something deeply personal to the people around you. Pick the evening that sounds like you and make the reservation.

Schedules and ticket availability can change. Check each event’s official site before making plans.
